Escaping Through The Lily Fields or The History of the 31-Split The Other Ones

There were only 31 times in 2,000+ shows that the band felt the need to split The Other One into two, creating the beautiful sandwich world of the Grateful Dead.  Mostly this was a Keith joins the band, lets do it 21 times occurrence in the desert in 1971 and 1972, although it was done from 1969 (maybe 1968) all the way to 1992.

To give away the ending, over the years TOO split with An Eleven Jam, 9 versions of Me & My Uncle, Sitting on Top of the World, El Paso, Bobby McGee (2 times), Morning Dew (last night in Europe 72), He's Gone (3x), Black Peter, Drums and Space (2x), Eyes of the World, Spanish Jam>Mind Left body, St Stephen>NFA>St Stephen, Stella Blue, Wharf Rat, and on the last one
Way To Go Home > The Same Thing > Drums > Space > Wave To The Wind > . Plus I likely missed a few :)

Prior to October 1968, Deadbase says The Other One was a;ways the meat of the Cryptical slices of bread itself. That's what we know (maybe, kinda). Bid thanks to archive and deadlists for this one. and deadbase always.

Then came October 8, 1968. Although Deadbase splits The Other One at one of the Matrix shows (aka The New Improved Pig and Bob-less Dead, Deadlists does not buy it. So I'll start officially with 1969.  I hope that some researcher finds 5 to 10 more 1968 tapes, so we can get more clarity on this in the future.  So one split in the 1960s, the 1980s and the 1990s and 28 in the groovy 1970's.

Here's a thread on the economic split of the band for fun https://www.reddit.com/r/gratefuldead/comments/21pwtu/does_anyone_know_the_financial_split_between_the/

Only nine more versions were played after 1972, split in four eras.  However since the split occurred at shows from 1969 to 1992, it was one of the longest lasting phenomena in Grateful Dead history.
